URGENT - WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE National Weather Service Riverton WY 1254 AM MST Sun Mar 5 2017 ...A fast moving weather system to bring snow and wind to the area west of the Continental Divide today and tonight... .A weather system will begin to move into far western Wyoming late this morning. This system will produce a brief, but possibly intense, period of snow as a cold front sweeps east across the area this afternoon into early Monday morning. The combination of falling snow and gusty wind will create hazardous travel conditions. Jackson Hole-Star Valley- Including the cities of Jackson, Afton, Alpine, Star Valley Ranch, and Thayne 1254 AM MST Sun Mar 5 2017 ...WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM THIS MORNING TO 5 AM MST MONDAY... * TIMING...The heaviest snow is expected to fall this afternoon and evening. * MAIN IMPACT...Snow of 3 to 6 inches along with southwest winds gusting 15 to 30 mph, mainly this afternoon and evening. Lightning and thunder will also be possible at times this afternoon and early evening. * OTHER IMPACTS...The combination of falling snow and gusty wind will create periods of limited visibility and hazardous travel conditions. Roads will become slick and snowpacked by late Sunday evening.

Southwest winds of 15 to 20 mph will also cause blowing and drifting of snow. * TIMING...Through early Monday morning. * SNOW ACCUMULATIONS...Snow accumulation of 5 to 8 inches above 6500 feet, and 2 to 4 inches at lower elevations. * CONFIDENCE...Confidence on timing is high, for accumulations, moderate to high confidence. * LOCATIONS...The Eastern Highlands from Bear Lake north to Macks Inn, including Targhee Pass, Pine Creek Pass, Emigration Pass, and Geneva Summit.
