Blizzard Warning Wind Rivers including South Pass

Travelers heading east from Western Wyoming should be aware

of hazardous winter conditions expected.

...A major winter storm will impact quite a bit of the higher
elevations and much of Fremont County tonight through Friday night...

.A strong upper level low will bring a return to winter weather
for many areas. This upper low will track towards the 4-corners
region tonight and remain in the area through Friday night. A very
moist flow will move into the area with heavy amounts of rain,
snow and rain snow mix depending on elevation and time of day.
This is a very challenging forecast for snow levels in the lowest
elevations.

...BLIZZARD WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 9 PM THIS EVENING TO 6 AM MDT
SATURDAY...

The National Weather Service in Riverton has issued a Blizzard
Warning, which is in effect from 9 PM this evening to 6 AM MDT
Saturday. The Winter Storm Watch is no longer in effect.

* TIMING...Snow...heavy at times...is expected to develop quickly
  late this evening and continue through late Friday night. A
  northeast wind will develop quickly this evening and increase
  overnight, continuing through Friday. Blizzard conditions are
  expected over South Pass much of this time.

* SNOWFALL...2 to 3 feet.

* WIND AND VISIBILITY...Northeast 40 to 60 mph combined with heavy
  snow will likely produce near zero visibility at times in
  blizzard conditions.

* Main impact...Travel over South Pass may become impossible by
  later tonight through Friday night due to heavy snow and 50 to
  60 mph wind gusts creating zero visibility.


PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Blizzard Warning means severe winter weather conditions are
expected or occurring. Falling and blowing snow with strong winds
and poor visibilities are likely. This will lead to whiteout
conditions...making travel extremely dangerous. Do not travel. If
you must travel...have a winter survival kit with you. If you get
stranded...stay with your vehicle.
