Strong Cold Front Crosses Star Valley Today

A vigorous cold front accompanied by very strong winds, falling temperatures and snow will impact Star Valley today.  Winds will increase rapidly  this morning with the cold front arriving by early afternoon.  Snow will whip across the valley early this afternoon, decreasing by this evening.  Amounts will be from 2 to as much as 4 inches, which coupled with winds gusting to 50 mph will result in difficult driving conditions during the afternoon and evening.

As of  9am winds are gusting up to 60 mph in the Snake River Valley from Pocatello westward to Twin Falls.

Riverton Forecast Office has issued a Winter Weather Advisory until this evening.

* SUMMARY AND TIMING...SNOW WILL BEGIN AROUND MID MORNING AND
  CONTINUE THROUGH THE AFTERNOON BEFORE TAPERING OFF DURING THE
  EVENING.

* SNOW ACCUMULATIONS...2 TO 4 INCHES IN THE VALLEYS. 4 TO 8
  INCHES IN THE MOUNTAINS WITH HIGHER AMOUNTS ON WESTERN FACING
  SLOPES.

* WIND AND VISIBILITY...SOUTHWEST BECOMING WEST 20 TO 30 MPH
  WITH GUSTS TO 35 MPH IN THE VALLEYS AND UP TO 50 MPH IN THE
  MOUNTAINS. VISIBILITY WILL BE REDUCED TO UNDER ONE HALF MILE
  IN SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW.

* IMPACTS...ROADS AND PASSES...INCLUDING SALT RIVER PASS WILL
  BECOME SLICK...SNOW PACKED AND ICY MAKING DRIVING HAZARDOUS.
