Runoff Could be a Problem as Temperatures Rise


THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN RIVERTON HAS ISSUED A

* FLOOD ADVISORY FOR MELTING SNOW IN...
  WESTERN LINCOLN COUNTY IN WEST CENTRAL WYOMING...

* UNTIL 1000 AM MST TUESDAY

* AT 948 AM MST...EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT REPORTED MINOR FLOODING
  OCCURRING ACROSS THE LOWER ELEVATIONS OF LINCOLN COUNTY.
  A MELTING SNOW PACK OF 30 TO 60 INCHES BELOW 7500 FEET COMBINED
  WITH WARMING TEMPERATURES IN THE UPPER 30S TO LOWER 40S...ALONG
  WITH EXPECTED LIGHT RAIN OF A QUARTER TO A HALF INCH WILL
  CONTINUE TO CAUSE A FLOODING THREAT.

* SOME LOCATIONS THAT WILL EXPERIENCE MINOR FLOODING INCLUDE...
  AFTON...ALPINE...COKEVILLE...THAYNE...COKEVILLE MEADOWS NATIONAL
  WILDLIFE REFUGE...GROVER...MEADOW CREEK GUARD STATION...PERIODIC
  SPRING...PINE CREEK SKI AREA...SAGE JUNCTION...SALT RIVER PASS...
  SMOOT...STAR VALLEY RANCH...STAR VALLEY REST AREA...
  TURNERVILLE.

THIS INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING STREAMS AND DRAINAGES, SALT RIVER, BEAR
RIVER...SMITHS FORK...WEST FORK HAMS FORK...NORTH FORK SMITHS
FORK...LITTLE GREYS RIVER...GREYS RIVER...SOUTH FORK LITTLE GREYS
RIVER.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

EXCESSIVE RUNOFF FROM THIS SNOW MELT WILL CAUSE MINOR FLOODING OF
SMALL CREEKS AND STREAMS...URBAN AREAS...HIGHWAYS...STREETS AS WELL
AS OTHER DRAINAGE AREAS AND LOW LYING SPOTS. MINOR FLOODING OF SMALL
CREEKS AND STREAMS...COUNTRY ROADS...AS WELL AS FARMLAND ALONG THE
BANKS OF CREEKS AND STREAMS.

DO NOT DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE INTO AREAS WHERE THE WATER COVERS THE
ROADWAY. THE WATER DEPTH MAY BE TOO GREAT TO ALLOW YOUR CAR TO CROSS
SAFELY.
