2012 Precipitation and Temperatures

Although it is a couple days early, little in the way of additional precipitation is expected by the end of the year.  A summary of the precipitation has been compiled for two of the observation sites in Star Valley.  One of them is located on Star Valley Ranch and the other is about a mile and a half southeast of Thayne.

The normal annual precipitation for Star Valley is between 21 and 25 inches.  2012 ended up a little below the normal.  However the summer of 2012 was one of the driest on record.  Fortunately the pattern changed and the Fall was quite moist.  Most noticeably, December produced well over 3 inches of precipitation at both stations along with over 4 feet of snow.

Following is a table for the two stations for the 2012 precipitation.

An additional snowfall observer located 2 miles northeast of Etna reports the following  2012 totals.

            January         20.25”
            February       22.5
            March           10.75
            October          9.5
            November     11.5
            December      45.5
