East Coast Snow Storm Post Mortem

The snowstorm that buried portions of the eastern U.S. over the weekend was well forecast for the most part .  Below is the visible satellite photo taken Sunday as the storm moved out to sea.

Below is the actual forecast of snow amounts made prior to the storm development.  The forecasts
were very good to excellent.  One area that substantially exceeded expectations was the New
York City area.  The snow dropped 26.8 inches in Central Park, the second-most recorded since 1869. The snowfall narrowly missed tying the previous record.
